CleanEquity® Monaco 2019, the forum for emerging sustainable technology and resource efficiency companies, hosted by Innovator Capital and the Monaco Economic Board, closed on Friday, 15th March with the Awards Ceremony in the presence of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco.

An independent panel of judges, chaired by His Serene Highness, selected BL!XT as winner of the award for Excellence in the Field of Environmental Technology Development.

Innovator Capital sources 600+ companies each year from across the sustainable and resource efficiency sectors around the world. With the assistance of the Selection Committee, companies with the greatest potential and most innovative technologies are invited to present. The five key criteria for selection are management, technology, intellectual property and revenue potential.

The conference was opened by the Eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, who discussed the United Nations, Sustainable Development Goals and the crucial role innovation must play. We wish female #entrepreneurship was as common as male entrepreneurship. We wish female-led #startups received VC funding in equal amounts to male-led ones. We wish #womensday wasn’t a thing.

Women shouldn’t need a day to be celebrated, they should feel valued every single day. And we believe great #entrepreneurs should be celebrated every day, regardless of their gender. But sadly the playing field still isn’t equal, so we need to keep showing that women are just as capable of leading business to success as men.

The new Blixt Breaker is the first and only miniature circuit breaker in pure solid state and with a clear path to siliconization and digitization. This new generation of circuit breaker acts as a smart meter, remote control and a super fast breaker, all-in-one single device. This data is, for example, communicated to the energy service provider so that it can effectively manage the future grid. Crucially, the Blixt Breaker also allows real time, remote, high-res monitoring and controlling of appliances, heating, cooling and electric vehicles, thereby enabling demand side management.

And since circuit breakers are omnipresent where electricity is being used, the potential implementation areas are way beyond traditional fuse boxes. “Being a young company, we are overwhelmed by the interest, coming in from large utilities, but also leading automotive conglomerates, the aerospace sector, nautical and industrial 4.0 companies from around the world,” says Charlotta Holmquist, Chairman and Co-Founder of Blixt.

The BL!XT breaker changes the game for smart metering and grid management. The breaker can retrofit with regular fuse boxes and fill the needs of existing breakers, remote controls as well as smart meters, in one single device. They also have their X-verter, which is a new generation bi-directional AC/DC conversion inverter that combines functions of several devices.

BL!XT showtime @ Slush 2018

Slush is the world’s leading tech event with 20,000 visitors. We asked ourselves: how to we get to the main stage to pitch BL!XT? It started with an application to Slush100 and of 3,000 startups we were among the 100 to get to pre-qualifications round the day before Slush. Hurray! Another Hurray! when we passed qualifications and were among the 15 to pitch in the semi finals! If you have been to Slush you have seen the pink stage. Huge scene at the center of the Slush venue, rock music and groovy atmosphere, just perfect for BL!XT! Unfortunately we didn’t made it to the top 3 finalists this time, but for us it was mission accomplished and so much fun!

One takeaway from Slush this year it the over used buzz words, in particular block chain and AI. I am always so surprised about startups saying ‘we are an AI company’, or ‘a block chain company’. I think the relevant questions is ‘what are the problems you solve?’.

Startup Autobahn rocks!

The Startup Autobahn event in Münich was really amazing! Full day with pitches and deep talks with Webasto Group, Daimler, Porsche, Mahle, BASF and a bunch of other cool German automotive/mobility players. Super efficient, fun and (German style) well organized! One takeaway was the commitment from Webasto’s Chairman, you could feel the positive vibes and openness towards startup collaborations! Check out the video from the event!

Highway to Hell

Sorry, couldn’t refuse the title. But it fits so well; AC/DC and kind of automotive related. While we have talked a lot about use cases for BL!XT in the energy efficiency field, we have barely mentioned the mobility space. Did you know that a modern mid-range vehicle, electric or not, has considerably more than 1.5 km of cable installed and contains between 1500 to 5000 circuits? Each one of these circuits needs a fuse or circuit breaker that sits idle most of the time and suffer from wear and tear. One idea we have is to integrate the Blixt Breaker into the into the ECU which would make wiring a lot quicker and less complicated. Instead of wiring through individual breakers, switches or relays, just go directly from the ECU to the load! And, on top of having a much more secure circuit breaker (1000x faster) you can collect detailed information about each individual circuit, and get full control of your electrical system.
